learning/kerisuite-learning-resources KERISuite learning resources: the documentation, tutorial, and paper sites, verified reference v0.1 — 2026-09-16; every entry checked against the live site or repository that day unless marked search-only; prepared for the core-group release 2026-10-15 (markers, ADE references and join links removed) partner 2845 # KERISuite learning resources > Where to learn KERI, ACDC, CESR, and the rest of the KERI Suite: the documentation hubs, tutorial series, papers, specifications, training material, community channels, and code, with who maintains each and how current it is. Compiled 2026-09-16 (the same question was also put to Gemini; its answer and its errors are in §9). Every URL was fetched or its repository metadata read that day unless the entry says *search-only*. Companions in this folder: [[KERI_Reference_skinny]] (the two-page summary), [[KERI_Synthesis]] (the full synthesis), [[KERI_Cryptography]]. ## 1. Start here: a reading path 1. **Orientation, one hour.** Nuttawut Kongsuwan's *Hitchhiker's Guide to KERI*, parts 1 to 3 (§7), then the KERI white paper's slide deck (§4); *KERI for Muggles*, which keri.one links as a Google deck needing a sign-in, is readable as a PDF in Smith's Papers repository (IIW 31, 20 October 2020). 2. **Vocabulary.** The KERI Suite glossary (§2) open in a tab; the Kerific browser extension (§3) turns any page's terms into glossary lookups. 3. **Hands on the command line.** GLEIF's vLEI training notebooks 101 (§5), or Kent Bull's *Sign and Verify with Heartnet* and *Treasure Hunting in Abydos* (§4). 4. **Hands on the edge-and-cloud architecture.** Notebooks 102 (KERIA and Signify), the Veridian getting-started pages (§7), and Kent Bull's KERIConf 2026 KERIA tutorial, of which this vault holds notes and a transcript. 5. **The specifications**, once the vocabulary is familiar (§2), with the search engine (§3) for anything the specifications assume. 6. **The papers**, for why the design is what it is (§4). 7. **The first public presentations**, for how the suite was introduced and argued over: the IIW sessions since October 2019, indexed in [[300-Research/310-KERISuite/events/iiw-sessions|iiw-sessions.md]] with a link to each session's page in the proceedings. The nine places most readers start (keri.one, KERISSE, KERIConf, IIW, Tutorials, Code, ToIP, vLEI and Products) each have a page in the Mini KSKB reader's "Where to start" group, built from the register (21 October 2026). ## 2. The specifications and the glossary (Trust over IP, KERI Suite Working Group) The specifications moved from the WebOfTrust IETF drafts to the Trust over IP Foundation's **KERI Suite Working Group (KSWG)** in September 2023; the ToIP Steering Committee approved KERI, ACDC, and CESR **v1.0 on 21 January 2026**. Co-chairs for 2026 are Philip Feairheller and Samuel Smith; the group meets monthly on the second Tuesday, did:webs on the third Tuesday, with agendas, notes, and recordings on the ToIP wiki. Task forces: ACDC, did:webs (Kent Bull, Jonathan Rayback), SAID URN. | Resource | URL | What it is | |---|---|---| | KERI specification v1.0 | https://trustoverip.github.io/kswg-keri-specification/ | the protocol: identifiers, key events, pre-rotation, witnesses, watchers, duplicity | | ACDC specification v1.0 | https://trustoverip.github.io/kswg-acdc-specification/ | authentic chained data containers: schemas, edges, rules, graduated disclosure | | CESR specification v1.0 | https://trustoverip.github.io/kswg-cesr-specification/ | the encoding every primitive uses | | did:webs method | https://github.com/trustoverip/tswg-did-method-webs-specification | public review; did:web discovery secured by KERI | | Verifiable Dossiers | https://trustoverip.github.io/kswg-dossier-specification/ | evidence composition (evolving) | | **KERI Suite glossary** (Spec-Up-T) | https://trustoverip.github.io/kerisuite-glossary/ (also https://henkvancann.github.io/kerisuite-glossary/) | the one glossary all KERI Suite specifications use; Public Review Draft 01; editors Smith, Reed, van Cann; cross-linked to the vLEI, ToIP, and general-IT glossaries | | KSWG working-group page | https://lf-toip.atlassian.net/wiki/display/HOME/Keri+Suite+Working+Group | charter, chairs, meeting index (the old wiki.trustoverip.org address redirects here) | | The IETF drafts (historical) | https://github.com/WebOfTrust/ietf-keri, ietf-acdc, ietf-cesr-proof, ietf-said, ietf-oobi, ietf-ipex | last pushed 2023–2024; cite the ToIP specifications instead | Verbal participation in the working group needs ToIP membership; observers may attend. ## 3. Henk van Cann's education stack (WebOfTrust) Henk van Cann (chairman of the KERI Foundation) has built the community's documentation and education tooling since 2022 under the WebOfTrust GitHub organization. In mid-2024 one repository was split into three, so the names overlap and Gemini muddled them: | Site | URL | What it is | Activity | |---|---|---|---| | **KERISSE**, the KERI Suite Search Engine | https://weboftrust.github.io/kerisse/ | a search engine over the KERI documentation sites and the whitepaper; the index runs in the browser; configurable collections; the entry point for "find me the page about X" | repo pushed 2026-09-13 | | **WOT-terms** | https://weboftrust.github.io/WOT-terms/ | the terminology site (Docusaurus): concepts, education, resources, glossary, "how we did"; the unified glossary that Kerific reads; the site calls itself a "personal learning environment and consensus building tool" | repo since 2022-07; pushed 2026-09-14 | | **KERIDoc** | https://weboftrust.github.io/keridoc/ | the documentation site (Docusaurus): intro, overview, visualisations, concepts, education, annotated copies, an SSI dictionary, video | repo pushed 2025-02-10, so a year quieter than the other two | | **Kerific** browser extension | https://github.com/WebOfTrust/kerific · Chrome Web Store | matches terms on any web page and offers buttons to the glossaries (Chrome and Brave); companion spec in kerific-spec | pushed 2026-04-16 | | **KERI-concepts** | https://github.com/henkvancann/KERI-concepts | an explanatory Spec-Up-T site on the concepts and design principles behind the suite | pushed 2024-06 | | **vLEI glossary** | https://github.com/henkvancann/vlei-glossary | the vLEI terms, cross-linked from the suite glossary | pushed 2025-11 | | KERI MOOC | https://github.com/henkvancann/keri/blob/main/docs/KERI-Mooc.md | a legacy idea; the page now says "KERISSE is one of the places to enter learning about the KERI Suite" | discontinued | He also runs twice-weekly educational KERISSE sessions (listed on the WebOfTrust meetings page, §6) and wrote the conference's own wording repository (kericonf-specs). **What the vault has already:** the Kent Bull KERIA tutorial from KERIConf 2026 was recorded in this stack's spirit. ## 4. Kent Bull and Samuel Smith ### Kent Bull (kentbull.com) Kent Bull maintains Signify-TS and cesride for WebOfTrust, co-leads the did:webs task force, and writes the most implementation-grounded tutorials in the ecosystem. His site moved to a `/posts/` layout; the old dated URLs no longer resolve. KERI posts, newest first: | Date | Post | URL | |---|---|---| | 2026-01-26 | Configuring KERIpy Controllers, Witnesses, and KERIA Agents | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/configuring-keripy-keria-controllers-witnesses/ | | 2026-01-24 | Hierarchical Deterministic Key Derivation in KERI: a deep dive into SaltyCreator | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-hd-key-derivation-deep-dive/ | | 2024-09-22 | KERI Series: Understanding Self-Addressing Identifiers (SAID) | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-said-explained/ | | 2024-05-11 | KERI Internals Part 1: the HIO async framework | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-internals-hio-async/ | | 2024-04-29 | IIW 38 KERI and ACDC session list | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/iiw38-keri-acdc-sessions/ | | 2024-04-14 | KERI Update: major release and branch strategy change | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-update-major-release/ | | 2024-02-16 | CESR enters provisional status in the IANA media type registry | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/cesr-iana-registry/ | | 2023-12-15 | European Banking Authority Pillar 3 data hub adopts KERI and ACDC | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/eba-pillar3-keri-acdc/ | | 2023-09-15 | KERI specifications have moved to the ToIP Foundation | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-specs-moved-toip/ | | 2023-03-09 | **KERI Tutorial Series: Treasure Hunting in Abydos, issuing and verifying a credential (ACDC)** | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/kli-tutorial-abydos/ · companion repo https://github.com/kentbull/abydos-tutorial (KLI and agent modes, witnesses, schemas, a webhook; pushed 2024-10) · video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxHKbQUg7FY | | 2023-01-27 | **KERI Tutorial Series: KLI, Sign and Verify with Heartnet** | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/kli-tutorial-heartnet/ | | 2022-06-05 | Reading mind map: KERI | https://www.kentbull.com/posts/keri-reading-mind-map/ | Also his: the KERI Dev Focus Call notes on HackMD (September 2022 to May 2023, the Rust-implementation era: cesride, parside, keriox) at https://hackmd.io/@kentbull/ByTPAA51i; a Postman workspace "KERI and ACDC"; and the **KERIConf 2026 KERIA tutorial**, of which this vault holds [[../events/kericonf-2026/notes-01-bull-keria-tutorial|notes]] and a transcript. His consultancy is **Encodible** (https://encodible.com/, "Digital Identity and Trust Systems Consulting", Kent Bull president); the site carries no tutorials that could be found, and the "implementation notes" Gemini placed there are the two January 2026 posts on kentbull.com. ### Samuel M. Smith (keri.one and the Papers repository) Samuel Smith invented KERI and co-chairs the working group. - **keri.one**: the KERI project site ("the first truly fully decentralized identity system"), with an About page, News, and a **KERI Resources** page (https://keri.one/keri-resources/) that is the best single index of his work: the KERI whitepaper 2.x, SPAC, the post-quantum strategy (co-authored with Daniel Hardman), Universal Identifier Theory, Sustainable Privacy, the Manning SSI book chapter 10 on key management, the ACDC whitepaper; the decks *KERI Overview*, *SPAC Overview*, *The Duplicity Game* (IIW 2020), *CESR Overview*, *KERI for Muggles*, *CESR for First Years*, *ACDC for Muggles* and *for Wizards*; the SSI Meetup webinar, the *Definitely Identity* podcast, the Nonconformist Innovation Summit keynote; and links out to the Hitchhiker's Guide and the specifications. Contact info@keri.one; the site's arXiv reference is the 2019 KERI paper, https://arxiv.org/abs/1907.02143. - **github.com/SmithSamuelM/Papers** (Apache 2.0; last pushed 2026-08-11): `whitepapers/` and `presentations/` (67 files). Whitepapers present today include KERI_WP and KERI_WP_2.x, ACDC, Universal Identifier Theory, Identity System Essentials, Decentralized Autonomic Data, Sustainable Privacy, KERI's Strategy for Post-Quantum Security, SPAC Message, ACDC IPEX Negotiation, ACDC Confidential Data Management, Cooperation Beats Aggregation, Many Cubed, Revocation, Self-Identifying Data, TSP CESR Implementation, KRAM, KERI Arch Group Issuance, XORA, the open-reputation papers, quantum-secure DIDs, keridemlia, and the ACDC age-predicate SMT note. The KERI Synthesis in this folder ingested the Smith and Hardman papers in full. ## 5. GLEIF and the vLEI training - **GLEIF-IT/vlei-trainings** (https://github.com/GLEIF-IT/vlei-trainings; Apache 2.0; created 2025-05, pushed 2026-05): the most complete hands-on course in the ecosystem, run locally in Docker as Jupyter notebooks (`./deploy.sh`, then port 8888, open `000_Table_of_Contents`). The 101 track: KERI, ACDC, and vLEI introduction; the KLI; controllers and identifiers; keystores and AIDs; signatures; key rotation; modes, OOBIs, and witnesses; connecting controllers; delegated AIDs; multisignature identifiers; ACDC; schemas; saidifying a schema; issuance; presentation and revocation; edges and rules; chained credentials (I2I and NI2I). The 102 track: KERIA and Signify, basic operations, connecting clients, key rotation, credential issuance, presentation and revocation, third-party tools. The 103 track: the vLEI ecosystem and trust chain. Plus a Chainlink CCID integration and a known-issues page. Markdown and PDFs carry the executive-level version; `llm_context.md` consolidates the content for use with a model. GLEIF's team also runs live sessions and one-to-ones. - **GLEIF testnet KERIA server documentation v1.0** (2025-07-11, PDF on gleif.org) for the hackathon environment; the **vLEI Ecosystem Governance Framework** pages on gleif.org; the open vLEI specifications at https://github.com/WebOfTrust/vLEI (pushed 2026-05). - **vlei.wiki** (https://www.vlei.wiki/): 420-plus concepts, search, and an MCP server that turns an AI assistant into a KERI and vLEI tutor over 3,588 source documents. Maintained by **Key State Capital**, not GLEIF, though it links GLEIF's material. Useful; not official. ## 6. Community, meetings, and the Foundation | Resource | URL | Notes | |---|---|---| | WebOfTrust/keri, the community hub | https://github.com/WebOfTrust/keri | meetings: implementors call on alternating Tuesdays 10:00 EDT; KSWG specification calls second Tuesday; did:webs third Tuesday; KERI Foundation market-and-community advisory fortnightly (the README's word; the Foundation's March 2026 invitation says every four weeks); educational KERISSE sessions twice weekly; Zoom links and the Linux Foundation calendar in the README | | Discord | https://discord.gg/YEyTH5TfuB (WebOfTrust README); the Foundation's resources page prints a second invite | the working channel for implementers | | KERI Foundation | https://keri.foundation/ | the L3C formed in late 2024: membership, sponsorship, board, staff; **Resources** (https://keri.foundation/resources/) lists the three v1.0 specifications, did:webs, Discord, the GitHub repositories page, and the trademark, badge, and brand policies | | Foundation GitHub page | https://keri.foundation/resources/developer-resources/github-repositories/ | names maintainers: keripy (m00sey, Feairheller), signifypy, keria (Rodolfo Miranda), signify-ts (Kent Bull), cesride, the browser extension, polaris-web; and the education repos (kerific, kerisse, keridoc) under Henk van Cann | | Market and community Zoom meetups | https://keri.foundation/market-community-zoom-meetups/ | Tuesday sessions, recorded | | **KERIConf 2026 recordings** | https://keri.foundation/confs/2026/videos/ | the Foundation's video page for KERICONF26 (22–23 April 2026, Lehi), also the SEDI 2025 recordings; kericonf.com holds the program and photos and announces a 2027 conference without dates. The vault's [[../KERIConf/KERIConf26Recordings\|KERIConf recordings note]] records the attendee-restriction caveat; check the page's access before citing it as public | | Mini KERIConf, 2 November 2026 | https://kericonf.com/ (speakers page) | the day before IIW 43; Karla McKenna is a named speaker | ## 7. The Gemini answer, checked The same question was put to Gemini on 2026-09-16. What it got right: the four groupings (van Cann, Bull, Smith, WebOfTrust), keri.one, the Papers repository, the ToIP specifications, the Foundation site. What needs correcting: - **KERIDoc is not doc.kerisse.org.** KERIDoc is https://weboftrust.github.io/keridoc/, the documentation site; KERISSE is the search engine at https://weboftrust.github.io/kerisse/; WOT-terms at https://weboftrust.github.io/WOT-terms/ is the terminology site that also calls itself KERISSE.org. Three sites, one split repository (§3). Gemini's KERISSE link was a Google search, not a site. - **Encodible hosts no "KERI implementation notes."** It is Kent Bull's consultancy home page. The two pieces Gemini named (SAIDs, hierarchical deterministic key derivation, configuring KERIpy controllers and witnesses) are posts on kentbull.com, January 2026 and September 2024 (§4). - **The specifications are the KERI Suite Working Group's**, not the Technical Stack Working Group's; the working group has co-chairs (Feairheller and Smith) and task forces (§2). - **Gemini missed** the GLEIF training notebooks (§5), the Hitchhiker's Guide and the Finema tutorials (§7), the Veridian documentation (§7), the KERI Suite glossary and Kerific (§2, §3), the community meetings and Discord (§6), the KERIConf recordings page (§6), and keripy's Read the Docs site (§8). - **keri.one** does not name its operator; it is Smith's project site with a contact address, and its resources page is the index worth bookmarking, not the home page. ## 10. Open items - ☐ Confirm whether the KERIConf 2026 videos page is public or attendee-only before citing it in anything sent out. - ☐ Publication dates for the Hitchhiker's Guide parts and the jargon series (Medium blocked the fetch; the search results place them in 2023 and 2024). - ☐ Watch Kent Bull's Abydos video and the KERIConf KERIA session against the vault's transcript. ## A lesson from running vlei-trainings, July 2025 (added 2026-10-13) GLEIF's `vlei-trainings` run with `deploy.sh` in Docker on a Mac, July 2025. The `!kli version` cell failed with "command not found" for forty messages of wrong diagnoses (registry authentication, Dockerfile case, PATH, Docker Desktop proxies, `daemon.json`) before the cause showed in `sys.executable`: the browser was attached to a Jupyter server on the host (Python 3.13), not the container's. Stop the host server and open the container's tokenized URL. The container ran keripy branch `1.2.8-rc2`. The general rule: distinguish host, container, notebook kernel, tool version and running service before changing any of them.
